Intent and implementation
Logging an agent and registering it with catalog is the basis of the development and deployment process of agentica AI. The use of the Databricks AI Agent Framework, leveraging MLflow, to log and register all AI agents. Logging is the foundational step, capturing a specific "point in time" version of the agent's code, configuration, and Python environment to ensure traceability and evaluation quality. The standard logging mechanism is MLflow Models from Code, which ensures the agent is packaged reliably for deployment. Key requirements during logging include:
- Model Signature: Defining the MLflow Model Signature to validate agent inputs and outputs, ensuring correct interaction with tools and other downstream applications.
- Resource Declaration: Explicitly declaring all external Databricks-managed resources (e.g., Vector Search indices, Foundation Model Serving Endpoints) that the agent requires for execution. Following successful logging, the agent must be registered to Unity Catalog (UC). This registration packages the agent as a model within UC, enabling the use of Unity Catalog permissions for authorization over the agent and its associated resources.

Verification
Project adaptation: get_control returns a concrete evidence request, a proposed test, and an acceptance condition. A control description or product feature is not evidence of deployment or effectiveness.
